Godliness within us

There are two temples to Anjana's son, Lord Hanuman, near our village, a distance of one km between them, the disciples of one reach upto the other, during the crowded festival times, seeking blessings.

Of all the deities in the Hindu Pantheon, there is a speciality to Lord Hanuman.

He was a brave and courageous warrior filled with valour, to lead an army and take on the might of the Lankan forces, across the open sea.

He possessed a body of steel, sturdy and mighty, to lift a mountain of secret hidden herbs, to save a life.

He had the mind of an ambassador, sharp and witty, to tackle the cunningness of the Lankan King.

Inspite of all this, he was a humble devotee to the Lord of existence in human form, Rama.

A rarity in all the worlds, brought down in an epic, in our land.

We go to his temple, to surface from within us such traits, to live in this world, and attain salvation, for now or for later.

It is a pity we find ourselves trading gifts to win, transport, housing, business, honour, prestige, exams, postings and cheap stakes at his temple, through the priests who are paid for by the gathering. (I talked with one of them, these are the requests, and he adds them in the mantras, for a price)

If one trait is present in us at certain moments, the others are bound to follow with devotion, prayers, compassion, love and hard work.

Who knows the God may find the Godliness in you.
