The return of the yogi

Swami from  Palani as i find him respectfully, was here again at our village, to teach us the Hatha Yoga, lucky villagers.

His class was attended again this time after the last batch of 40 a few months back, by a similar strength.

The classes were conducted for three days morning and evening with a lot of enthusiasm and spirit, Swami shared the moves with his taking part with us at the head , and guiding us with his heart.

He explained the importance of all the techniques either with the body moves  or of the breathing patterns.
The diseases affecting the modern man and how it can be set right with the practises were shared .

The founders of the art and their in depth knowledge of the subject was explained with the present worldly situation as comparison.

A strict note of vegetarianism was advocated for best results and understanding of the system on the body and mind.

All the practises were for one to come to an understanding of one's own creative energy and get it to its best potential as intended by  existence.

A simple breath - as intended

Many a master is remembered, who has acted as a path and guide to a realisation.

This is about Swami Shajananda, who was at Atheetha Ashram , on the banks of Ubbannur lake , near Hosur in Tamil nadu .

He was so close to nature, he shared with us observations and lessons from doing things naturally.

Many a Christmas ago, during one of the days at the health camp, He talked to us on the simple act of breathing.

Watching the breath of a child during activity or sleep, and the breath of an adult during sleep , we find so much similarity, and much to be studied, how we have moved away.

Ever since our first visit to a doctor , who asked us to take a deep breathe, and our days at the defense academy training at  NCC,where we learnt the " chest out stomach in," our breathing  methods have altered.

How stupid it may look to wonder why should one talk on the simple act of breathing.

Let us make a small try , may we slide back to normal breathing.

Take a relaxed inhalation, watch the abdomen grow, now let it an equally relaxed exhalation and watch the tummy get small.

Now let it happen naturally --  happy breathing.

An afternoon in silence - an eye opener

The term was an intended pun Swami Atma used about the silence programme that took place this sunday at the ashram site near Valapady  at 10 am on the bright sunny morning.

It brought together about 40 of us from Namakkal,Salem,Ellampillai and many others from near Valapady.

Ever since i had seen the tamil movie "Thiruvilayadal"  the episode on the third eye opening , and burning away ignorance, it has been in my mind, to unlock the significance of it .

Now this.

The meditation  said to be the cream of all meditations, started off after a short talk by Swamy, and every one sitting and watching the silence of the outer and inner.

With an occasional break of a glimpse around to see if things were alright , many returned back to watching the breath and the gaps between one and the next breath.

Lunch break was one of the best, sharing ourselves in silence with others and relishing the lunch, the silence continued till evening, when the mike was brought to let Swamy bring us back to a state of words.

Swamy spoke on the importance of the meditation and answered questioners.

Following this we formed a ring and Swamy shared a namsthe to each of us going around the circle.

We dispersed with a thought of sharing this way to the third eye meditation to all.
