2012 [* * * * *]

Though this movie has a very poor script, the special effects are stupendous! I bought tickets and saw it on the big screen because I heard so many people talk of it on the net. It was well-worth it just to see entire cities burn down and tidal waves smash up countries and continents drifting.:)

The ethics of the movie are what make you a little disgusted - it's a capitalist, all-american selfishness from beginning to end, with anyone raising a "what about the rest?" question being knocked down with a bullying sneer. In fact, that question never gets answered. So the plot suffers from self-doubt, and everyone's left thinking it's each woman for herself in 3 yrs... but so what: just watch the skyscrapers fall with blinkers on! It's kewl.:p

Seeing this movie in a village theatre with the operator turning the knobs or playing with the sterio is one not many can imagine.
The screams are in the vernacular, tamil.
I read the plot before going for the movie to get a background to understand things, and notice what i cant nomally do.
There is one thing that made me think again and again, the aircraft carrier,USS JOHN F KENNEDY crashing into the white house.

It was surprising that an Indian astrophysicst is recognised for his discovery and eventual saving of humanity,by an american movie maker.
